An asset register is the foundation everything else in a maintenance programme sits on — you can't schedule a PM, log a work order or calculate a health score for an asset that was never entered. Incomplete registers are one of the most common, least visible reasons a maintenance programme underperforms: the assets missing from the list get no schedule at all.
A well-built register includes make, model and serial number, installation date, location, criticality tier and a link to the OEM manual — not just a name and a QR code. That level of detail is what makes the register useful for anything beyond a basic inventory count.
