AMRs differ from older AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles) in exactly this respect: an AGV follows a fixed path — a wire in the floor, a magnetic strip — while an AMR builds its own map and reroutes live around obstacles, which makes a facility layout change far less disruptive to reconfigure.
A fleet-based deployment — a dozen AMRs sharing a floor and routing dynamically — degrades gracefully when one unit goes down for maintenance; the rest absorb the load. That resilience is exactly the architecture question worth checking before assuming any single robot going offline is a crisis.
